![]() I’ll admit I don’t know much about the Falcons defense back then (though I do know a bad offense puts the defense in a lot of bad situations and forces them to spend too much time on the field), but I do know that he’s the one that turned around what had been a horrible Bengals defense. Looks like you got another class act there, Cincy.Īndy, I’ve seen both Zimmer and Petrino on TV, and from what I’ve seen I have no doubt that Zimmer would have nothing to fear from Petrino. Seems Petrino had a little help on his way out the door.Īnd, isn’t it a bit “cowardly” to call a guy out in the papers, rather than calling him an MF’ing bastard “to his face”. Was that the year your mighty Falcons defense ranked 29th in both yards given up and points allowed? Sorry, I wasn’t aware Michael Vick was expected to play both offense and defense for your team that year. Lives, a bunch of people’s families, kids, because he didn’t have enough UPDATE: More from Zimmer, via Reedy: “ is a coward. Meanwhile, the “gutless bastard” has Arkansas back in the top 25 in college football. On Sunday, Zimmer’s Bengals face a Falcons team that has been almost completely remade since 2007, especially on defense. Petrino famously didn’t tell any of his assistants that he was leaving Atlanta for the head coaching job at Arkansas. When Zimmer was told that responsible news organization may not be able to use “bastard,” Zimmer responded: So hearing his name pop up was interesting.Let’s just say Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer doesn’t look back fondly on his days coaching under Bobby Petrino in Atlanta.ĭon’t give a s-,” Zimmer said Wednesday, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer. I just brought it up because we just lost him as a coach and this last season was very strange. This wasn't a story about Bobby P and nobody was "piling on". The truth often lies somewhere in the middle and people are complex, but these two little stories rang true with other evidence. Again, that doesn't make him the devil, nor every story you hear about him true, but that goes equally for everything you guys have said too. Now I don't know the truthfulness of the no talking dinners but he definitely had some difficulties in dealing with other human beings so it could have been. This certainly rang true though with things that we've seen from him in the way he left here the first time. That doesn't mean he's the devil or that everything said about him in the media is true. He certainly didn't seem like a stand up guy. I'm not saying that any one side is the total truth, but it certainly strikes me as true that he would have secretly been working a deal to get out. And BP said, you wanna play that way, fine. You want the true story of what happen in Atlanta with Petrino and Blank? Go talk to Joe Beasman Hall. ![]() I hate that he gets to walk away from here and get a fat check too. ![]() Just passing along something I found interesting. ![]() They said that they knew Bobby wasn't fit for the NFL. Everyone had to sit around eating and nobody was allowed to talk. Then they were interviewing someone else with the team and he said that they had rules where at team meals nobody could talk. Within 8 hours or so Bobby was shown doing the "whooo pig suey" thing at an Arkansas presser. So Arthur was sitting in his office and Bobby came by and Arthur was basically like "what do you want me to tell them" and Bobby just looked him in the eye and said "tell them you have a coach". ![]() There were rumors swirling about Bobby as the coach and he and Bobby had an agreement that Bobby would play out the season. He said that they had a game on Monday night that week and that he (Arthur) was to be interviewed that night on ESPN. My interest was piqued when he started talking about Bobby. I just had the Graham Bensinger show on in the background while working on something online and he was interviewing Arthur Blank, the owner of the Falcons. ![]()
